The Foodie Files: C5 at the ROM

Many institutions choose to enhance their visitors’ experience with a food court instead of going the extra mile to create a unique eating venue. Kudos to the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto for choosing Compass Canada and Restaurant Associates to bring a real food experience to the museum and continue the quality tradition established by Jamie Kennedy’s tenure there. Kennedy also had a hand in passing on the baton to the next culinary incarnation, suggesting the same developer who created the food venues at the Metropolitan and Guggenheim museums in New York to head up the revamped space. Restaurant Associates have brought their innovative concepts to Toronto with a fresh, contemporary style.

The newly expanded venues include a self-serve cafeteria, a catering division and the star; C5 Restaurant Lounge in the Michael Lee-Chin Crystal. Chefs Ted Corrado, Lauren Boyington and Caesar Guinto are focusing on local ingredients and Toronto’s cultural influences with modern and imaginative dishes.

On par with international venues, this showcase of professional expertise, local talent and fresh ingredients represent the best of what a global marketplace has to offer. Toronto is putting its best foot forward with this newest culinary combination.

Check it out next time you’re in town,
Christine
