The Foodie File: Peanut Pumpkins: More From The Royal Agricultural Fair
The Royal always has fabulous vegetable specimens and livestock on display to stand a foodie like me in awe. This year I spied a peanut pumpkin. This variety of pumpkin is covered with bumps that look just like peanuts!
I love it – it’s the April Fool of the gourds! Wouldn’t this guy be excellent hacked up into a jack-o-lantern with all of it’s nobily bits stuck to it? I read another blog post online who didn’t believe the peanut pumpkin picture someone had sent him was real, he thought it was a cantaloupe.
By the way, try saying “peanut pumpkin picture†10 times fast! (Ok – I know that was totally juvenile, it was this crazy pumpkin that bought it out in me…)

Can you eat peanut pumpkins? Are there any recipes for them?
My 6 year old grandson would like to know, he grew a peanut pumpkn this year.
Thank You
Linda Groening
Linda, Sure he can eat it. It won’t be great, they are mostly meant to be ornamental. Cook it as you would cook any kind of squash.
