The Foodie File: A Weekend of Food and Wine
Today is the first day of the 13th annual Gourmet Food and Wine Expo in Toronto. Purveyors from all over the world are here for the next four days to wine and dine and get as much exposure as they can for their products.
My agenda is full – I cannot pack one more event in and I am sure to need a detox by Monday. I kicked things off last night with a Flavours of the South dinner event Sponsored by Travel South USA at the Calphalon Culinary Centre. To loosen everyone up and get us comfy they served an excellent Seelbach Cocktail – it is the champagne cocktail of Kentucky; bourbon, bitters and Champagne. It was beautiful and golden and knocked you on your keister – I think I will steal it and make it my holiday cocktail this year.
We also had delicious cheese grits with whiskey seared scallops (and lots of butter); a gorgeous brined heritage pork loin with sweet potato spetzle and shitake mushrooms (and lots of butter) and a pound cake with a carmel whiskey sauce and royal gala apples (and lots of butter)!
Looking forward to more great eating over the weekend – I think next week I’ll work on a spa feature….

Lucky you, Christine!
Hope you will share the recipe for the Seelbach Cocktail. Enjoy your weekend of pleasure!
