The Foodie-file: Afternoon Tea

afternoon tea, tea, scones, clotted creamSaturday afternoon, my mom is in town and I am looking for some thing to do with her. My nephew is also at loose ends so we decide to take him to the ROM to check out Gordo the newest addition to the dinosaur collection.

An afternoon of kids and dinosaurs…hmm? I think I need to throw an adult food outing into this mix. I suggest tea at the four seasons. Turns out I had a brilliant idea – I don’t know if my mother or my 8 year old nephew loved it more. I discovered it is a great activity for young and old alike. Mom and I had a glass of sherry while the waiters treated G to a special glass of sparkling “champanade.” G had his very own pot of hot chocolate milk to go along with the scones and clotted cream, which he could not believe such a thing existed and why had he never before had them! My mother was equally enthralled with the beautiful setting, the rich selection of treats to savour and the attentive service. She said the scones were almost as good as mine but I have to admit theirs were better and were served with a lemon cream that G devoured. We also had lobster, smoked duck and the de-riguer cucumber and cream cheese tea sandwiches. When we were all tea-ed out Gabriel read our tealeaves and predicted a man with a horse in my future and that we would all return for tea another day.

He also said of the two outing: tea and dinosaurs, he preferred the tea… a foodie in the rough if I ever saw one!

Hi Christine… this is your sis! Remember when you took me for tea at the Four Seasons for my baby shower?!! That was 11 years ago. Glad to hear it is as wonderful as always. Let’s go next time I am in Toronto!
