The Foodie-file:Coffee Pairing
Melitta recently hosted a coffee pairing seminar with Canadian foodie personality Trish Magwood preparing dishes with coffee and paring foods with coffee. Trish whipped up Spiced Nuts infused with coffee that were delicious, a rub for a steak that included coffee and and lots of yummy desserts including Chocolate Pots that were quick and easy to make. Everything was paired with coffee – a bit of a problem after three cups when you are shaking and jittery, I do not recommend this as an evening event!
This pairing trend is getting a little out of control – I receive information on pairing every beverage you can imagine. Don’t we just want to enjoy some things on their own, let them stand on their own merits? Having said that, I do have to say one of my favourite taste sensations are my brother-in-laws spicy mexican eggs on a Sunday morning with corn tortillas and a hot mug of strong coffee and milk. It has to be his eggs though (not even I can make them the way he does) and it has to be strong espresso coffee with at least 2 percent milk.

Nothing pairs with my coffee better than Irish Whiskey, but then that could be my excitement over St. Patrick’s Day talking…
First thing in the morning, I like a coffee all on it’s own, black. (That must be good for my stomach lining.)
After dinner, with something sweet, and almost anything will do!
After dinner, I love espresso coffee – a single dark shot!
