Win 2 tickets to Toronto Taste worth $450!
Hi foodies! It’s Canadian Living’s web food editor Colleen filling in for Christine as she gallivants across the country, frolicking in merriment as she discovers food and drink to share with us all. Oh to be a food writer!
But enough of my whining. I’m here to tell you that 50 of Toronto’s top chefs are gathering together on Sunday, June 8th to show off their culinary prowess at the Toronto Taste event in support of Second Harvest, a non-profit organization collecting and delivering unused fresh food from the Toronto’s restaurants and small grocery stores to shelters across the city. Wineries, micro-breweries and cocktail vendors also represent a large portion of the event’s purveyors. Yay!
Why is this important? YOU could win two tickets – valued at $225 each!!
Get your salivatory (and creative) juices flowing and tell us your favourite Toronto Taste. Is it pork dumplings in Chinatown? Vegan fare in the Annex? Flaming cheese on the Danforth? One lucky person who comments below will be chosen at random to attend next Sunday’s Toronto Taste event! The winner will be contacted on Thursday, June 5th and tickets will be held at the event in the winner’s name.
So pony up, dear readers, and tell us your favourite bites from the City of Toronto. You and a friend could be attending this year’s most exclusive foodie event in Toronto! Good luck!

I must say their are a whole bunch off places you can eat in the City my choice was THE MYTH on the Danforth , not only for the great food but also for its great service from the waiters and other staff, for a great restaurent is only as good as its staff , food is a big part but the service also appeals to me !!!
I have many favourites…however more recently The Roasted Rack of Lamb at DW Pasta & Grill on Finch Ave W …..just West of Dufferrin St. and don’t forget the Crepes Praline..HMMMM Yummy
Peruvian food! For the biggest variety of dishes I’ve even seen on a menu (about 10 pages?), try El Plebeyo, on Bathurst, just south of St Clair.
Peruvian food has been rated one of the best in the world!
All time favourite: My very own Home Kitchen, nothing to beat it!
However the best places to enjoy are:
Chinese: Chilli Chicken & Hakka Chow Mein at Federicks in Scarborough
Korean BBQ: at Midland & Finch in Scarborough
Indian Food: Masala Dosa’s at Saravanan Bhavan &
& Kama for Buffets & several other Restaurants for the different dishes, but nothing to beat my own Home Ktchen, try! Specially the Bohra Food
Italian: enjoy the atmosphere & variety at Frankie’s Tomatoes
I’m a huge seafood fan. Quigley’s in The Beach has the most fantastic mussels. Fresh, delicious and lots of them.
When I’m in the mood for a fast lunch I’ll go to Jim’s at Queen and Logan which advertises the “Best Western in Toronto”. The people who eat there are part of the fun – lots of “characters” make it an extremely interesting experience.
When I want a little more upscale Baton Rouge on Yonge for the spinach dip – I can make a meal out of it by itself.
After many years away from toronto, almost 40, I have returned to find a very culturally diversified city with lots of ethnic festivals held throughout the year, especially the summer, sothis year I am committd to attending as many different festivals as one can visit in a summer. The variety and expanse of taste throughout the city is a great indication of how welcoming this city is to new faces, friends and family from all around the planet. Opportunities abound here and so does the foods which is clearly shown by the large number of cultures co-existing together.
I love the variety of wonderful restaurants that Toronto has to offer with all the ethnic contributions. When I went to visit my daughter in Toronto who was a student at Ryerson University we always went to her favourite near the campus called Salad King which is a Thai specialty. It’s simple style, informal but fantastic flavours.
The croissants at Clafouti Patisserie et Cafe (915 Queen W) are my favourite Toronto Taste!
I love Addis Ababa’s Ethiopian food on Queen West. It’s a laid back friendly atmosphere, delicious food, and an amazing after-dinner coffee experience!
Our favorite for Indian Food is Brar’s in Brampton. It is a vegetarian restaurant and the choices are fantastic. I thought I knew a lot about Indian food, and I can make a lot of dishes, but each time we visit there will be something we have never seen before. We live in Waterdown, so don’t get there often, but whenever we are heading East over a mealtime…..
Nepalese/Indian @ Kathmandu (Yonge & Maitland)
OK all you Foodies-TORONTO can match any major city in the world for the best and delicious and delectable desserts anywhere from Scarborough to Mississauga to Harbourfront to Vaughan.
The best in town is Italian with a South asian-Portuguese touch in Vaughan in the strip plaza opposite the Vaughan mall-La Mara(?)
Cantonese chow mein at any Chinese restaurant.

My favorite meal memory while in Toronto last summer was at Shopsy’s Deli downtown near the OKeefe Center. I love their gigantic corned beef sandwich and the atmosphere of the place.
Apple cinnamon muffin from Richtree at College Park
Lamb at 5th Elementt
Korean Grill House – any location – do it yourself BBQ with fresh ingredients;
Paisano’s on Willowdale and Sheppard – relaxed Italian with huge servings and low prices;
Baton Rouge on Yonge near Sheppard – amazing ribs
Souvlaki on the Danforth. The down the street to the bakery for Baklava. MMMMM!
I’ve never been to the T.O. Taste, but with all of these responses, I need to!
I’ve never had too much of a chance to enjoy the restaurants mention living in the north (born in Sudbury) I ve been to Chinatown with my nephew no so long ago, last october, and I was amazed at all the restaurants. When I got home I was ready to cook after tasting and enjoying the food the day before. If was to go to Toronto Tasting I m sure that it would broaden my horizons. It would be an experience I would never forget.
I love Dhabba for Indian and also Chiado!
