Winnipeg Smoked Goldeye

foodie findsRheanna Kish from the test kitchen was recently in Manitoba, so I asked her for a foodie-find from there for today’s post. Here is her recommendation: “Smoked Winnipeg Goldeye from Gimli Fish Market…yum! They smoke their own fish over oak chips. It’s a fish that’s native to Manitoba waters and has the same oily richness of smoked trout, but with a soft, subtle smokey and fishy flavour.”

fish.jpgWhat I’ve read about Goldeye is that it really isn’t very good at all when it is fresh, but smoking it makes it really special. Also, Winnipeg Smoked Goldeye is almost exclusively produced in Manitoba, so this really is a local foodie-find.

My family loves Winnipeg Smoked Goldeye, and for a while, was able to find it fairly easily in the Toronto area, but as of late, have not been able to find it at all. Do you know where it is availble in the GTA, or can it be ordered from Manitoba, and shipped in?
