A Whisky Wake and FREE STUFF for Foodies
I was invited to a wake last Wednesday. It wasn’t the sad event you might imagine, it was the William Grant company’s clever idea to boost morale and make sure the whisky is still flowing in these depressed economic times. And the whisky was flowing! Glenfiddich 15 and 12-year-old scotch was the libation of choice to toast the death of the bull market. The event was complete with a eulogy to to the grand days of consumer confidence and inflated stock prices, and a band to serenade the mourning revellers.
Treating us all to a free night of drinks, food and entertainment was a great way to rouse depressed spirits on a cold and depressing mid-winter’s day, and so I have decided to follow the lead.

Hey Christine,
Can you tell me the difference between cake flour, bread flour and all purpose flour?
How would I substitute one for the other in a recipe?
Thanks, love all the great info on your blog!
Sunshine,
I did a pretty good job of outlining the differeneces in teh post “Gluten in Flour: Everything you need to know.” You will find it at this link or filed under the section “Foodie’s Ask” in my blog.

As far as substitutes go, it would depend on what you are making. All purpose flour is going to be fine for most things but you may find that your end product isn’t as perfect as when you use the flour the recipe calls for.
If you still have questions, feel free to leave a comment, I’m happy to answer.
