Free Tickets to Lifford Ladies Night for Lupus!

ladiesnightLifford Wine Agency is hosting the third annual wine event for lupus research. Lupus is a life-threatening auto immune disorder that affects 15,000 Canadians. Lupus is difficult to diagnose, effects ten times more women then men, and currently there is no cure.

The Ladies’ Night fundraiser takes place on the evening of Thursday April 16th, at the Fermenting Cellar in the Distillery District in Toronto. There will be a variety of exclusive wines, gourmet food and HGTV’s duo, Colin McAllister and Justin Ryan, hosts of Colin and Justin’s Home Heist will be entertaining with their razor wit and tips on home design. This is a great event, I went last year and it was tons of fun - here are some highlights from last year.

Lifford has kindly given me four tickets valued at $99.00 each to treat two of my reader to a great night out. Last year I had readers post their best cure for a hangover – which was a real hoot! This year to be eligible to win,  since it is April first, send me your best ever April fool surprise to win two tickets to the event.

I have a grandmother who is a real prankster. My grandfather loved a good joke but not if it was on him! Every April Fool’s Day my Grandmother would slip him a doozy that would keep him hopping all day. Her ideas usually centred around the lunch she packed him that would include things like a sandwich without the ham in it and instead a piece of paper that read april fools or a “hard boiled” egg that was just the shell that would shatter when he went to peel it, Instead of the egg he would find a note she had rolled up and stuffed inside with April fools written on it. I thought her fun at my grandfathers expense was pretty hilarious so I challenge you to give me your best foodie April Fool surprise, here is a Canadian Living menu of culinary shockers to get you inspire.

I will choose the two best entries and announce the winners on April 14.

My Dad likes to hide things on my mom who has to get up extremely early – like her morning coffee. Or he’ll rearrange the cupboards. I remember giggling to myself in bed if I woke up to her cursing. hahaha. But we never did anything as creative as your grandma! One year my brother and I put rocks in Dad’s workboots, and it was HILARIOUS from a 4- and 7-year-old perspective.

One year I poured milk into a juice container and added a few drops of orange food coloring to it, I waited for them to sit and watch me pour the “orange milk” on their cereals, the look on their face was priceless. They still talk about it.

An Apple A Day! I was in charge of making school lunches for my siblings. My brother liked his food spicy. So, one year I polished his apple with chili oil for April Fools. He later told me that the first bite was a shock but he ended up really liking it!

A good number of years ago the dentist in the office across from where I worked had a very life like stuffed dummy made to look like him; a tall dark haired man. On April 1st, I borrowed said dummy and sat it in the sales managers office with its back to the office door. When the sales manager came in I told him an irate customer was waiting for him in his office and that I had been unable to deal with him. I had a reputation for being able to handle angry & confrontational people and the sales manager did not. He demanded to know why I hadn’t dealt with the problem. I said he was too agressive for me. After much trepidation he walked into the office with his hand extended introducing himself and said dummy of course didn’t reply. After the second time of saying excuse me he walked over and tapped the dummy on his shoulder and it promptly fell over. The look on his face was of utter shock. I felt a little bad as I thought he was going to be ill at first. He did laugh about it but never forgot it.

One year we dressed up our project managers office with pink everything and called it the Love Shack! Pink hard hat, pink cd player, and pink post it notes everywhere! We even had a few kiss marks on the window. His face seemed quite ‘pink’ when he arrived and saw the new decor!

For everything else there’s mastercard!!! LOL

My Aprils Fools Day this year was about Colin and Justin as my girlfriend LOVES them!! I woke her up with a phone call pretending that they were going to come and renovate our house – she did get really excited and I felt really bad when I had to admit April Fool’s – This prize would be perfect for my girlfriend – she has a big crush on those boys and it would get me off the hook for being a horrible boyfriend! Although would she believe me if I told her…..hmmmmm help me find out!!!

Please accept my resignation as full time mom, cook, baker and cleaner effective today! Off to see the wizard! Love Dorothy Within 20 minutes all 3 responded by email, quite worried I must say and not sure if their menopausal mom and wife was all there or not! Anyway I now know how to get return emails from them quickly and we all had a fabulous laugh over it

This woman where I work came in with her arm pretend severed. She said she was in a horrible accident on the weekend, and it was very life like. When she had everyone convinced, she revealed the gag. Boy, everyone was shocked!

This year I swapped out my two cats (fat Persian & a mixed breed) for my Mom’s two Siamese. She was shocked when she came home to my two & even more shocked when she came over to my house & found her two.

    On behalf of Helen,

My best April’s fool day surprise, was in 1973, my then boyfriend (he is my husband now) asked me to marry him!!
I was not sure if he was joking or not, because he has a good sense of humour and he loves to joke around! So I really did not know what to answer, so I asked him, do you know what day it is? and when he said no…… I said yes!!
so we married the next year, and have been together ever since!
    Bye,
    Hélène Pouliot

In the beginning of our marriage my husband used to bring me flowers every week. As the years went by this practice became less and less. On April’s Fools day during our 10th year of marriage I woke up to find my lawn covered in pink flamingos. My husband explained that he thought this would put a big smile on my face and would make up for all the weeks he missed bringing me flowers!!

My sister was away on holidays due to arrive home April 1st. We were watching her house and said dont worry we wont sell the place while you are away. While she was away we took all her furniture out and replaced it with another friends’s stuff from storage. We changed the name on the mailbox. Had 2 people pose as the new owners of the house and they freaked her out when she came home. They said Who are you and what are you doing in our house. We just moved in. It was hilarious. She never asked me to watch her house again. But I am waiting for payback.

MY SISTER IS BORN ON APRIL 1ST, AND ALWAYS HAS THE WORST BIRTHDAYS. THIS YEAR WAS HER 50TH, SO SOMETHING SPECIAL HAD TO BE DONE!! HER DAY STARTED WITH A FAKE CALL FROM THE PRINCIPAL OF HER OLDEST SON’S SCHOOL TELLING HER HE HAD FLUNKED A HUGE MATH TEST AND WAS GOING TO HAVE TO REPEAT GRADE 10 MATH. HER HUBBY WENT TO PICK UP A SUPER SPECIAL BIRTHDAY LUNCH FOR THE TWO OF THEM; AND BROUGHT HOME A HALF EATEN SUB-SANDWICH. I THEN PICKED HER UP WITH MY MOM FOR A BIRTHDAY SUPPER AT HER FAVOURITE RESTAURANT, AND THE FAKE WAITRESS WAS THE WORST. OUR MOM AND I ENJOYED A FABULOUS SUPPER, BUT MY SISTERS’ ORDER WAS ALWAY WRONG; NOT COOKED, WRONG ORDER, OVER AND OVER AGAIN. SHE WENT HOME HUNGRY, AND FINALLY REALIZED THAT THE WHOLE DAY WAS A APRIL FOOL DISASTER!! SHE LAUGHED HALF HEARTED, UNTIL SHE FINALLY CAUGHT ON. THEN THE WHOLE FAMILY ATE CAKE AND ICE-CREAM, AND LAUGHED ABOUT THE ENTIRE DAY!! NEXT YEAR WE WILL HAVE TO TRY EVEN HARDER!!

  • Eire says:

My lovely daughter set back all the clocks in the house by 1 hour so when we got up none of us knew that we were an hour early and missing out on a hour of sleep!!! We were all up and ready to grab a quick breakfast when she would put on her cheeky grin and announce what she had done and then look at me with those puppy dog eyes and ask if I would make her pancakes for breakfast seeing as we had so much extra time!!! Who could say no after that!!! Bless her heart :-)
